I recently stayed at hotel and had a fantastic experience. The check-in process was smooth, and the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. The room was spacious, well-appointed, and offered stunning city views.||Amenities included which I thoroughly enjoyed. The onsite restaurant served delicious meals, although it was a bit pricey. ||Overall, I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a comfortable and upscale stay in the city.

Stayed on a Saturday night.|Receptionist was pleasant & check in was seamless. |Lovely room with views re of the cathedral. |Nice walk in shower, bathroom clean. |Huge bed with crisp bedding. |Dressing gowns & slippers. |Water & two cans of soft drinks in the fridge. |Biscuits & tea coffee etc on a tray plus a coffee machine. We ran out but a very pleasant gentleman on receptionist gave me plenty more. |It was nice to have a cuppa with the curtains open looking at the cathedral & listening to the church bells from the bed. |We stayed a night on a room only basis & had a really comfortable nights sleep. |Check out was at 12 pm on the Sunday clocks went forward so we were glad of that. |Have stayed a couple of times many years ago & it’s a great location to explore Winchester. |Shops & pubs are just around the corner. |Parking on site £15 for 24 hours.

The location is great - and the view from the room superb - but... it is so tired, old-fashioned, and in need of a make-over, as it could be great, but is - alas - nothing more than average at best? As for the parking - at extra charge - we were lucky enough to get one of their good spaces, but - as for the others - they were hellishly tight (but better than the other night-time alternatives, as Winchester seems to do its utmost to deter anyone from staying the night in their city): their parking costs are extraordinary!

Disappointing Stay with a Lack of Proper Hygiene, Refund Options, and Poor Room Allocation

While the hotel is in a fantastic location, close to everything, the overall experience was unfortunately below expectations. The hotel is a bit dated, which could have been charming if the room had been properly maintained. Sadly, the room we stayed in had fallen into disrepair, and the cleanliness left much to be desired. I would’ve felt more comfortable staying in a budget hostel, especially considering we were traveling with our 9-month-old baby. Hygiene was a big concern for us, and it didn’t meet the standard we hoped for.
(I have added a few pictures there are loads more ,but Didn’t wanna spend the whole time taking photos of poor Hygiene)
I strongly recommend not using their kettle due to limescale.
Although They were aware we were travelling with an invent they were aware we were travelling with an invent we were placed right opposite the bar. The noise from loud music until late at night was disturbing, and it kept our little one up. To make matters worse, we were directly next to the “smoking area”so we had to deal with the sounds of people going outside to smoke as well. It was incredibly frustrating, especially since the hotel was aware that we were traveling with an infant.

The service didn’t do much to improve things. We didn’t need much assistance, but when I voiced my concerns about the room, the only compensation offered was a £15 refund for parking. Considering the state of the room and the disruption caused by the noise, this felt completely inadequate and frankly disappointing.

Additionally, a side note about the staff: while it’s a small detail, the woman at the front desk was wearing a wrinkled shirt and didn’t appear to take much pride in her appearance, which gave the impression of a lack of professionalism.

Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this hotel, especially with a family. There’s a Premier Inn directly across the street, which would likely offer a much better experience for a similar price.

The hotel staff were lovely and the reception area feels welcoming. The hotel rooms are a completely different story. None of our lamps nor our fridge worked so we had to go back down to the lobby. There was also a huge stain on the carpet near the bin (which looked like blood), the rooms didn’t feel welcoming and were very dated and unclean. We were only staying for two nights and spent most of our time exploring Winchester, had we been there longer I would have asked for my money back and gone to the travel lodge over the road. This is DEFINITELY NOT a 4* hotel and certainly not worth the current price.

Friendly and very helpful staff. I left my phone charger in the room and they posted it back to me without any fuss. Although the hotel decor looks a bit dated it does have clean spacious rooms and is in a good central location. We also liked that the facilities we 'old style' i.e. a shower that works as it should without too many gadgets and gizmos and a bath with a proper plug so you can actually have a decent bath.

A very central location for this character hotel. Whilst the room was spacious, albeit a bit tired looking it was fully of character and a view towards the cathedral.

We were greeted by a very smiley, friendly Magdalena who informed us that our room was ready early, however as we were heading into the town there was no rush. She shared her local knowledge and provided us with a map. A great personal approach as we arrived and then as we left.

I had an amazing experience at the bar in Mercury Hotel thanks to Artur! From the moment I arrived, he was incredibly welcoming, professional, and attentive. His cocktail-making skills are top-notch, and he recommended the perfect drink based on my preferences. Beyond that, his friendly personality and attention to detail made the evening even more enjoyable. It’s clear that he takes pride in his work and goes above and beyond to ensure guests have a great experience. I’ll definitely be back and highly recommend stopping by to see Artur if you’re in town!
