This place has lots of different habitats, marsh, ponds, forest, and large open water, all having well positioned viewing ares or hides. This was a first-time photo scoping visit, so I wasn't expecting much activity at this time of the year, but I was surprised. I will definitely return in a month or so, hoping to capture a kingfisher photo.

My favourite reserve in the area. Lots of hides that are well kept and provide a great viewing for wildlife and birds. If you want to see Kingfishers, this is the best location in the area by far. You can also become a member to access a special Photography hide which is low to the water for the best pictures.

We stopped off for our first visit to Tophill Low on the 01/09/24, on the recommendation of a fellow photographer from Lancashire who had visited several times.

So we were up in Yorkshire for a concert on Saturday and used the next day to visit the reserve. That was a great choice as the site is well maintained, the paths are great (I walk with a stick), although it may be different in winter.

There are several hides on the reserve with just 1 being for Members (I joined in the day to access this hide) and it was worth it. We walked round most of the reserve during our visit as you can see from the photos.

I also photographed the Little Ringed Plover, Ruff & Dunlin for the 1st time making it a great visit. I will be back very soon as I'm back in the area later this month and hope to photograph the Kingfisher if it stays in one place long enough.
All I can say is Tophill Low Nature Reserve is well worth a visit, whether you get a Day Ticket or become a Member you won't be disappointed.

Beautiful park, with an abundance of wildlife (if you have a keen eye!)
The reserve trails are easy enough to traverse, with plenty of hides in which to view the wildlife undisturbed.
Perfect for a gentle stroll to reconnect with wildlife, for avid bird watchers and photographers of all levels.

There is a small parking fee, which I didn't mind paying, as it pays for the upkeep of the park. There are activities ongoing throughout the year as well.

Lovely well kept nature reserve. Paths were easy enough to get a long with a wheelchair. Followed the gold route. The hide we went in was easy to get the wheelchair in but could have done with a section of window slightly lower and no bench in front of it.

Good place to visit, plenty of hides and plenty to see. Main reception overlooking the water has fixed telescopes available and seating.
I believe its heated in winter.
Entrance is £3.50 each with adequate parking. Pay by card or cash, was told card is easier as the cash function sometimes plays up.
Toilets available on site.
All on a level surface, some slightly muddy areas, but otherwise dry underfoot, with no inclines or slopes.
