The menu is classic - no surprise -, however, superbly executed. Good service, lovely setting. I had a steak sandwich with a gravy dip. The steak was perfectly cooked, pink since It was a slice of roast, the chips were the best I've eaten in a very long time. Ratio of greenery and quantity were just right. I shared a Bakewell pudding for dessert (I think they'd be better shared between 3 people). Good pudding which comes with either custard or cream. I did not hear custard was ordereand since I am not fond of custard, so I asked for cream. The staff very kindly brough cream also which was not charged for i think that was very accommodating. With hindsight, the pudding probably does not need either, but this shows great service. If I could suggest, a coffee with mignardise would have been better (a coffee with tiny portion of the different types of bakewell to be able to try them all rather than a big portion of just one of them) - that would probably work very well for the restaurant/bakery too.

I’m absolutely thrilled I chose to visit Bakewell and its delightful café, 'The Old Original Bakewell, Cafe. The atmosphere was laid back complemented by the attentive and friendly staff who were knowledgeable about the rich history of the renowned Bakewell pudding. The menu boasted an array of tempting options, and naturally, there was an abundance of Bakewell-themed goodies to purchase. A stop here for coffee and cake is truly a must!

There was a long queue when I went in and an even longer queue when I went out! I ordered a small bakewell pudding and a slice of bakewell tart with almond slices. Both tasted good. We preferred the tart w almonds. Delicious!

Amazing food. We loved the Bakewell tart and other items that we ordered. Excellent ambiance. We were not quite happy with the toilet, it was disgusting. The queue in their bakery is longer than the great wall of China, seems like the whole town is there. I guess people love them.

Amazing place with really really good food. Shop has a lot of things to buy. Restaurant is really cosy, nice chilled music, and staff are friendly and approachable. We had the Bakewell pudding and tart - had cream and custard for each. Can’t decide which is a better combo! Best place to eat in Bakewell and is highly recommended.

We came for the famous Original Bakewell Pudding. We got the sharing one between two which was plenty enough. I was blown away with how good it was, a must have if you visit!
We didn’t have any hot food but what went past us on the way to other tables looked amazing!
We didn’t book a table but we’re only a party of two so got sat within 5 minutes. I recommend trying to book if your party is any larger!

Great experience going here. Came for the 6" bakewell tarts, stayed for the restaurant. The staff were very friendly and the food was great, I highly recommend going 👍

The food was mediocre at best. The Bakewell pudding itself was very sweet but the pastry around the edges was not crisp and flaky as it should have been, it felt rather like it had been microwaved; as had the small jug of custard which it was served with, as the jug was warm but the custard was cold.
The pot of tea for two only poured us one cup each and inside the pot looked dirty. The table was sticky.
The service was fine and we were seated quickly but as we ordered the namesake dish more effort should be made to upkeep this history pudding.
Disappointing.
