Enjoyable one night stay at the Maynard. Room very modern and comfortable. Staff we spoke to were friendly and helpful. Full English breakfast was delicious, sausage and bacon really tasty. Roast beef dinner on Sunday evening was delicious, one of the best we have had. Would like to especially mention our lovely waiter, Joe, who was very attentive and courteous. Great service from all the waiting staff. Would definitely recommend.

A very good value stay. The staff made the experience even better with their friendly and helpful manor. The food was good quality for the price. Ate both nights of our stay and enjoyed both meals. The breakfasts were also very good, extra toast etc supplied without a grumble. The rooms nicely decorated and comfortable. An old building will have its faults like condensation on windows, but it has soul not like your Premier Inn or Travel Lodge. Beer prices are reasonable. Watch out for the really expensive good wines £12.50 large glass but worth every penny for special occasion. It was the wife's birthday, and nice touch was small luxury box of chocolates. Good location for walkers. Many walks on the doorstep. The hotel does not have a lift so if you are not good on your pegs choose another hotel although the friendly staff will help you.

Evening meal, I ordered the spiced lamb rump, the menu description states that veg comes with this dish, carrots and chickpeas etc. oh dear when it arrived it looked like a starter, tiny portion. The only veg was more of a garnish/decoration than proper veg. A third of the lamb pieces were fat, which once removed left even less. £24.95! Terrible quality and value. It needed potatoes and veg which are extra! £9 extra, so £34. |My partner had a fish dish, which once again was ridiculously small. |The waitress was very apologetic and attentive, and she passed our complaints. Unfortunately the manager preferred not to get involved!|The table next to us returned two soups due to them being cold. |Overall really poor, I haven’t got a big appetite, I just like nice food at a sensible price, and sensible portions, consequently. I won’t be returning.

3rd stay here. Unfortunately the stay this time was not up to expectations. The room though having a note explaining a weeping window did in reality just mean a massive pool of water on the ledge that had to be requested to be moped up in the afternoon the next day. The building is starting to feel its not being maintained to a high standard with little issues such as toilet holder falling off (this is ontop of the last stay where a toilet just stopped working).
The staff previously so helpful and pleasant were absent this time and the main staff member was overworked doing long hours and grumpy throughout our 2 night stay.
Also breakfast items were removed from the menu though having the items in stock but not prepared, limiting the 2 options of toast and avocado and porridge to just porridge for breakfast for us awkward vegans.
It is still a beautiful and wonderful setting but with the price and expectations high these things should be addressed.

We came here for lunch yesterday and it was lovely. The service was a little slow, but we didn't mind as we were enjoying our time. The staff looked like they were working across all areas, from the bar to the restaurant to the front desk..! Our food was delicious and we were pleasantly surprised when we realised they had 30% off their winter menu.

Check in was quick and we'd kindly been upgraded to a family room. The room was decorated nicely and was very clean. A lovely large bed but the pillows weren't comfortable at all ( just very flat and not supportive.) Dinner and breakfast were both very good and the staff was pleasant and polite. There was a mix up with food ordering but this was sorted quickly. I'd happily stay again.
