I have just returned after 3 great nights at this gem of a hotel. The staff were amazing. I didn't book a special room but I believe it was Oscar who took us to the room and noticed I was struggling (my balance is no good. But I hate to admit it) very discreetly he asked my partner if a room on a lower floor would be better. It was. During my stay my partner had family problems so I ate dinner on my but the staff were absolutely brilliant. The hotel is full of character and I highly recommend it.

All staff morning and evening were so accommodating. We checked in at 9pm with our dog (£15 charge) had a little bevvi in the quiet lounge. This hotel was a little stop over on route to the Lake District. The rooms were clean, we had the top floor, stairs were not an issue for us. Bed was a little soft for my liking but i have back and neck issues. In the morning we had a full vegetarian and English breakfast that set us on our way. Well presented and lots of, the twisted toasted bread idea looked fancy but kinda dried it out. I would stay again.

Pros: Great location, lovely building and a nice room. The staff were also welcoming. My one criticism was the room did not get cleaned and tea/coffee replenished during our stay. ||Cons: The breakfast was the poorest quality I have had in a long time. I travel a lot with work and stay in a lot of hotels, including Travelodge & Holiday Inn. The breakfast here is nowhere near the quality of either of those chain hotels.||The coffee is served yourself by using sachets and a hot water urn (no fresh coffee machine nor cafetière option). Barista coffee can be ordered at an additional £3-4 per cup.||I ordered scrambled eggs on toast. The eggs were tasteless, watery and appeared to have come out of a catering supplies carton of ready mixed egg. The bread was also the cheapest of supermarket white loaves. ||Overall, the breakfast was so poor I did not bother going for the remainder of my stay. Given the price paid for the room, it really felt like they were going for style over substance - serving poor quality food on expensive tableware. Not good.

Nice visit. Comfortable hotel with nice boutique style bar.
No complaints apart from: only 1 tube of shower gel in bathroom, 3 teabags which were not replenished - very annoying and so easy to rectify ! No-one on desk to ask so had to make do. So unnecessary.

The food was fantastic, and felt very well looked after by the staff, in particular Reiss. 🙂 would recommend. The breakfast was also great. There is also a nice canal just down the road, which I managed to make use of going for a run while working away.

3.5/5 ||We stayed for one night at the Lion Hotel in Brewood. The hotel rooms are good value for money, clean and well maintained. We had an evening meal at the Staffordshire Grill during our stay, the food was excellent and the service was exceptional. We were looked after by Juliette and Alissa who were very attentive. The head waitress was outstanding :)|We enjoyed a 3 course meal, with plenty of drinks and had an amazing evening.||The biggest disappointment during our stay was breakfast. We felt that the quality and quantity of the food provided was substandard compared to the high quality of the food we had during dinner. We had asked for certain items to be removed from the breakfast but no substitution was offered. The food was overcooked, the portion size was extremely mean, with the majority of the portion being padded out with toast, which was also burnt. One plate had butter provided for the toast, the other had been missed, when we asked if we could have this, we overheard the chefs arguing with the service staff as to why more butter was being requested. We didn’t feel like this was an unreasonable request. If the breakfast had not been included in the price of the room, we definitely would have sent it back and would not have wanted to pay £11 each for what we were given. We also realised, after the fact, that items had been missed off of our plates that we would have liked.||Overall, we have enjoyed our stay, the main service menu is extensive, the quality of the food is very good and the service we received was also very good. Our experience has not deterred us from visiting again in the future, but we feel that some aspects of service could be improved.

We stayed for 4 nights in a King Superior room. Some things were good and some not so good. Access would be a problem if you struggled with mobility. It's an old building with narrow, steep staircases and feel quite unsafe. In fact, one of the steps feels as if it is about to give way. This is the middle of three treads as you go up to the first floor bedrooms.I'm glad that I'm not very heavy and pretty agile.||Our bedroom on the first floor was over the toilets of the restaurant. The extractor fan below sounded like the throb of a engine on a cross channel ferry and vibrated the floor. What's more it keeps coming on and going off as people went to the loo. If you go to bed at about 10.30, as we do, this is a real problem.||You may think that Brewood is probably a quiet village. However, there was a loud bar across the road with DJ at the weekend. We could hear the music in our room and people were raucous when leaving. The old single glazed windows gave no protection from the noise.||We had breakfast on each of the four mornings. If you want a cooked breakfast there is a choice of 4/5 cooked alternatives. However, if you would prefer fruit, yoghurt, croissants, or anything else it is not available. Also, we had to wait an hour for breakfast to be served on Tuesday morning. The delay was due to a group of 6 non residents who came in for breakfast. When you book rooms you are advised to book tables for the restaurant. We didn't but it is essential to do this at weekends.||The room was clean and the bed comfortable. The staff that we met were not very helpful or engaging. They need training on how to be customer focused in recognition that they are in the hospitality business. We hope that our comments are helpful but we will not find out if changes are made as, on our next visit to the area, we will stay at another hotel.
