Cosy, bustling cafe in the centre of Hitchin. It's often quite busy and there may not be seats-- it is clearly very popular.

The menu had interesting unique dishes as well as brunch classics.

The coffee was decent -- they stock Allpress coffees and have a guest coffee on, too.

Service was timely and the food was really good. My partner had the avocado toast and I had poached pear French toast. I did enjoy my food but the pears were barely poached- they were still quite tough. Additionally the sauce that came with the avocado toast was a bit excessive. Otherwise it was really good food, though.

Would definitely come again. Nice spot.

Really nice cafe. Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable about allergens. Had a lovely gluten free groundwork’s breakfast with the sausage (gluten containing) substituted for extra bacon.

First time customer and will definitely be returning. The atmosphere and the smells draw you in immediately, and the staff are so welcoming. We were seated straight away (no mean feat, so I've heard) and a lovely waitress came over after a moment to take our drinks. The drinks came, with a complimentary bottle of water, and the best vanilla oat latte was placed in front of me and it was like the key to ascension. We made a simple order of a bacon and egg roll for my son and scrambled on sourdough toast for me. Let's just say, Chef understood the assignment and the food matches the top quality aesthetics for Groundworks, Hitchin. Everything was cooked to perfection, and presented beautifully. The staff were attentive, but not pressuring - maintaining the welcoming atmosphere, despite how busy they were and there was a smile from every member of staff I saw.
Cannot recommend this little slice of paradise enough.

It’s not often I leave reviews but I’ve been coming to this cafe every other week for the last year. Always met with exceptional service and fantastic food. From healthy food options to nice treats and always great coffee/hot drinks.

I used to really like Groundworks, but no more. My regular order is usually the toasted three cheese sourdough, which was excellent until recently. Now, the bread is so thinly sliced (is it really sourdough?) that it looks like cardboard.. and it is now only two cheeses which taste and look more like glue!!!
As for the coffee, Hot Numbers was much better, so now I go to Hermitage Road where they still serve it.
Overall, it is not worth the money they charge.
The staff, on the other hand, is always very friendly.

Lovely experience going here for coffee and brunch. Service was fantastic. Food was excellent and coffee was delicious. While slightly on the expensive side, the quality is high and I think I’ve convinced myself it was worth it. They also handled an allergy without issue and with confidence which was great.

Get the grilled cheese and some hash browns!

I’d love to have more rosemary salt on the hash browns and much more kick to the chilli mayo and the jam however. Otherwise a perfect experience (and dog friendly to boot)!

I recently moved from London to central Bedfordshire and came across this gorgeous space where the service, the staff, the food is fantastic and delight! It’s my second visit and probably a regular place to visit for good quality food and coffee. I highly recommend this place ❤️

I really like this place is nice and quite for coffees and snacks
The staff is always friendly the only problem is that you have to wait for table about 20 mins, is always busy
Also I would prefer more sweet options for snacks
