It was a lovely family day out, the kids loved it, ages 2,3 and 4. We had the steam train outbound and the diesel train on return. The journey was very pleasant with a river and farm land. Also a small refreshment bar on board. The only downside is that the tickets seemed to be a bit over priced for what you get only a 14 mile journey and for all of us it came to £70. Quite pricey for a short trip.

There are a couple of things to see here accessible from one car park. Besides the railway, you have otters and butterflies, also worth a visit. My waiting time was for the train ride as I arrived halfway between trains. Tea,coffee, and other drinks, as well as crisps and sweets, can be purchased on the train.

A beautifully looked after, preserved railway. The stations and buildings are architecturally important, you wouldn't know which came from other stations and areas. Friendly staff make this a very pleasurable experience.

This is a lovely little find, tucked away at Buckfastleigh. We didn't go on a train, but did spend time on the platform, in the second hand book shop, gift and railway shop, cafe and museum. The museum is really interesting, with a chance to sit in a carriage, take the wheel etc. Only small, but free (grateful for donations). There's a miniature railway close by, and the Butterfly and Otter Park a matter of 100 yds away. Parking is available free - but through a little bridge. Motorhomes/high vehicles need to pull up alongside the station and very friendly, helpful volunteers will open up the field gate opposite.

Loved our day out on the South Devon Railway. We were in the guards carriage next to the buffet car and the car parking at Buckfastleigh station was free. Drinks available on board and a lovely cafe and gift shop at the station to explore. I’ve done plenty of these steam train trips and this was easily the best one to date.

We had an awesome day on the South Devon Railway today. They are so doggy friendly, ours were allowed to sit next to us on their towels on the seats. They were given doggy treats by one of the guards even before we set off. With a break for lunch we enjoyed 3 full return trips on day rover tickets so it was brilliant. Can't wait to go again soon. Thank you South Devon Railway staff for an excellent day out

The experience was excellent, the staff were friendly and the trains gorgeous.
You are able to book tickets in advance or on the platform, and there was plenty of space on the train

Visited Buckfastleigh Station and just sat watching the staff shunt rolling stock and a couple of locomotives around the sidings. The train from Totnes arrived, passengers disembarked and the train returned to Totnes. An enjoyable time sat in the sun just watching and it was all free!
