This place had a whole shark on ice when I went in. A. Whole. Shark. That means that people from round here must actually buy, cook and eat a whole shark on occasion. I've never seen that before.

I was only cooking for 2, so decided on some nice halibut instead, which was delicious. Really nice and fresh. They also had some turbot which looked great, but still a bit much just for 2 people.

Also got a half dozen oysters which the gentleman serving told me were from Whitstable, but this was early May, and whenever I've been to Whitstable they shut up the oyster stalls at the end of April.

Either way, the oysters were also fantastic. Really good. And only £1.50 each - which is a bargain considering when I was in Whitstable in January the beach stalls were charging £4.50 each!

Got some crab claws as well, also delicious. And some lobster bisque which I haven't had yet, bit am looking forward to.

In short, this place is brilliant. Highly recommend. Wish I'd taken a picture of that shark.

Great selection of fish and seafood, both fresh and frozen. Excellent fish soup and bisque in jars. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. Highly recommended.

Bought some mussels today for dinner tonight and after cleaning about 25% could not be used which is very disappointing especially paying £8 a kilo. Fish is expensive so when you pay the prices charged you expect good quality, I did think it was strange when the fishmonger asked when I was going to eat them and I said tonight.

I asked my friend to get some fresh prawns from here , we bough nearly 500g . They were absolutely tasteless, I mean zero flavour but smelled extremely fishy . The next morning they had stunk the fridge out and we forced to put them out for the animals. I’ve never had prawns with zero flavour and that smelt so fishy. I have to say that we’ve bought other shell fish from them and they were ok. I will try them again in case this was an isolated incident, but I think they really need to operate some sort of quality control .

Delicious fresh catch, fantastic range of fish and seafood available. The friendly and helpful staff are full of great suggestions on how to cook and prepare your purchase. I would personally recommend the mussels - some of the best I've ever eaten. Well worth a visit, best to call in advance to check opening times.
