I purchased Peugeot salt and pepper mills (£35 each), as this brand is known for producing some of the best quality mills available. While the salt mill is great, the pepper mill doesn’t sit fully or squarely on its base, unlike all the photos shown online.

I contacted Potters, and we agreed that I would return the item for a replacement. However, Potters refunded the cost minus the return postage. There was no explanation provided for the lack of a replacement or the partial refund.

After calling Potters, I learned they didn’t consider the mill faulty and had charged me for the return postage. There was no prior discussion or communication about this decision. The representative was polite, but there was a complete lack of customer understanding.

I was told the mill was within “normal tolerances” and that they had no more in stock to provide a replacement. However, they also stated that even if they had the item in stock, they would not send me a replacement, as it would not meet my “exacting standards” — which is surprising, given that the same mills are still available for sale on their website.

I was so appalled by this response that I mentioned I would leave a public review. The representative then threatened to post a strong reply, complete with photographs of the item and a tape measure, though I’m certain these would be taken from an angle that would obscure the issue.

I refuse to be intimidated, so I am posting this review, including a sample photo from Potters’ website, showing how the mill should look.

Brilliant shop from the moment you go in the door…What a shop! Everything I would think you would want and some.Staff very friendly and helpful ,which makes a change from other shops.Parking is no problem either and it’s free..All in all a very good experience..Well done Potters…

The price match offering on their website is totally bogus. Their website lists out all the “conditions” that ought to be satisfied and even if you do, they still won’t honour it.

They recently declined to price match an item stating it wasn’t economical for them and it’s fully at their discretion. We had a fair few other items to purchase, however, this response put us off (especially given we satisfied all the conditions listed on their website) and we ended up spending our money elsewhere!

Not sure why they bother advertising price match if they have no intention to honour it.

So the missus complains that the toaster is not doing it's sole purpose in life evenly. I point out that there's not much wrong that a litle bit of deft knife scraping won't fix which puts an end to said drama. Two days later, breakfast is delayed as the toaster has no power at all and refuses to work. You might say that sounds highly suspicious, and I did too!

Which brings me here, to Potters Cookshop. I hadn't heard of it just a day ago, yet now i'm about to gush about what a great little find they are. I'll be honest, I looked at Amazon first because I have many bad habits and not thinking about helping those little independent shops that power the UK economy early in the morning is one of them, but here's the kicker, Potters were cheaper, had more colours of desired toaster and over-delivered offering free 3 day delivery which only turned out to be next bloomin' day delivery!

So if you must, go to Amazon & read the product reviews and then buy it at Potters, believe me you'll feel much better about yourself!

Good product range and payment options, though very questionable price match system where they will only match a very small number of stores with hoops you have to jump through. Pretty pointless gesture really when most people shop online. It's 2024!
