The service at Pets at home on Winwick Road has been fabulous every time I've been. The staff are very friendly and proactive in checking if you need anything and not in a sales kind of way. Great service, is my go to place now.

We visited today as we are getting a new pup in a few weeks time, we were assisted by the manager Adam, who could not have been more helpful, he went out of his way to ensure he answered all our questions regarding various items we wanted to purchase. He also advised about the puppy socialisation classes they run. We really felt he went the extra mile to make us feel valued.
Thank you!

I don't really like pet shops that sell live animals but I have to say that the animals here look well cared for. I come here to buy supplies for my cat and I can always find what I need and the staff are very friendly and helpful.

Unfortunately i had a really negative experience here and looking at the other reviews i do hope its an off day.

I have SpLDs, im a trainer and behaviourist registered with the ABTC and work with dogs trust. Now i have an assistant who helps with my disabilities but sadly this day she wasnt available and niether was my wife. However that doesnt mean that i cant be alone and that i cant function without assistance however i am prone to frustration when things dont make logical sense and people are anything and everything but helpful.

So i stopped here on the way back to Lancashire from Southampton. Been in the car since 5.30 am. Ive just picked up this kitten which i am being told is 9 weeks old but with my experience is 4 or 5 weeks old (my vet has checked today we actually thing 3 and a half to 4 weeks) i went up to the vets at this pets at home and they just had 2 emergencies come in and could spare 2 minutes look at this kitten, tell me if they agree with age estimate and offer me the wormer im asking to buy. They send me downstair. Fine, not a problem. Now at this point ive put my hand in the carrier and the kitten has attacked me, and everytime i look into the door the lunges at it spitting, clearly a very scared cat and as an autistic person who is starting to panic and already very frustrated im struggling to keep it together.

I ask a member of staff to serve me for wormer and she sends for someone and a women comes down. She asks me how much the animal wieghs and i say, i dont know ive just gotten her. She responds with well i need an estimated weight to dispense anything, now im getting more frustrated because ive just gotten this cat and i DONT KNOW!!!! so i say" well youre welcome to get her out and get attacked by her because she is scared. And she just keeps repeating that she needs a weight.

Now i dont fault that a weight is needed, my local Pets at Home knows me well and now because of how unhelpful she is being i i will just go to my local pets at home. I was abrupt. I know i was, i was factual which some people may take as rudeness but thats common with autistic people. But i didnt shout and i wasnt rude, and i just walked away when i wasnt helped by a member of staff.

So i went and sat in my car for a bit and though about the situation, i always take culpability for my part in things but i will also give feedback. So i calmed myself down and called the stores phone and asked to speak to a manager. I made clear i was NOT trying to put in a complaint but i wanted to gove some feedback. And when i said that i had just been in about wormer she straight away jumped on me "that was me and i can dispense it because i will loose my licence" did you miss the part where i said it wasnt a complaint? I simply gave the feedback of she could have helped me weigh the carrier and and then wiegh one of the ones of the shelf (its a pets at home carrier) and deduct the weight, she then threw back about the blankets which to be honest im impressed she saw because she didnt look at the cat or in the carrier the entire time and the door was point towards me, not her. She offered zero problem solving or helpfulness in our interaction so whilst on the phone whilst i apologised how i came across, she did not apologise for her unhelpfulness and rudeness. I offered her ways she could have been more helpful and when i said about my SpLDs and Autism she said i should have "communicated that to her" i even said that if all of us with SpLDs had to wear aigns it would be classed as discrimination but if thats how the manager of the store behaves perhaps a course on equality and diversity would prove useful.

We did at least end the phone call nicely despite her overtalking me, dismissing my suggestions and gave the generic offer of me coming back another day.

I ended up going to 1 of thw stores in the Leyland/Preston area, not my local but i was paniced still and they were at least soo nice and help, actually looked at my kitted, gave advice, did agree with my age assessment and zero issues what so ever.

The Lady reception was super helpful when I wanted to buyva new hamster pet for my little one. She quickly got another colleague with the relevant expertise and the guy was super nice and told me all about the environment, food and ways for either Gerbil/Hamster and let me have time to decide. There was no rush into things and both were really helpful.

After a not so great experience at the last vets we used this was the complete opposite end of the spectrum!

Every person we've interacted with has been wonderful whether that be upstairs in the vets or downstairs in the store.

The vet area is currently undergoing a hefty renovation to extend the mezzanine and that can only be due to the quality and capability of all involved. I sing the praises of this place to absolutely anyone who'll listen!
