Perfect place for a post walk cuppa or lunch. Had the cheesy chips and a half bowl of chilli, yum. Raspberry and coconut bar also delicious. Service friendly, vibe relaxed and they don't mind your muddy boots. Lovely.

Looking forward to coming back for brunch.

Lovely Cafe with great photos of climbs and climbers adorning the walls! I had the steak and ale pie with chips peas and gravy... Just what was needed after a long hike

Fantastic range and service here. The staff are patient and knowledgeable. They spent near on an hour with me going through harnesses and shoes, showing me the options and advising which ones may be the best fit.

A Top-Notch Outdoor Store in the Peak District

Yes, Outside is expensive—but only in line with the original manufacturer prices. If you want high-end outdoor gear, you have to pay for it. As a seasoned cyclist, kayaker, hiker, and wild camper, I’ve learned this over the years. Having spent years in the military, I rely on tough, durable kit that won’t let me down, especially when venturing off-trail into deep forests, lonely moors, and high peaks.

Where else in the area can you find such a range of quality gear and equipment? Not many places, and for that, we should be grateful. In many ways, the shop almost forces you to visit—there’s nowhere else quite like it. A great business strategy!

I always enjoy stopping by, grabbing a cuppa upstairs, admiring the artwork, and reading the info while surrounded by like-minded people. The staff have always been reliable and professional, even when dealing with difficult customers—an art form in itself.

On that note, I do need a new hard-shell, and this is exactly the place to get it!

Came to Outside from Biddulph Moor at the recommendation from a friend who lives near Newcastle under Lyme. I wanted a new pair of boots. The service I got was superb and the knowledge was wonderful. Loads of options and time spent going through them. Every pair that I was offered were a great fit and I plumbed for the Altbergs....

It might be the case that you can buy things a bit cheaper elsewhere but the knowledge they have ensuring you get what's right for you is worth every penny extra and then some.

Giving it a 3 star as usually I have a decent customer experience here (especially the 2 young lads). Found today very bizarre. I was returning a pair of waterproof trousers for £162, and thought I’d exchange it for a jacket which was £180 in store. When at the till I simply asked if they could do a price match with Cotswold Outdoors (literally 10/15minutes down the road at Bakewell) as they had the same jacket (size and colour) in stock but for £160. As soon as I said it, the reaction from the older guy made it feel as though I’d asked for something ridiculous. I understand businesses have to make profit somewhere but they have had to refund me money and then lost out on another sale because of £20. I shop here quite often and it’s not the cheapest place in the world, but I like to try and support local businesses as much as possible. I’d have understood if I came up with a ridiculous price from a company in a random country, but I’m talking about another shop 15 minutes away. It’s a big shame as it’s put me off going back.

Always love a browse in the Outside store, lots to look at. Prices higher than other retailers but the store is friendly, great advice for all your outdoor / camping / trekking needs, dogs welcome and decent cafe.

Customer service is superb. I had the stuff sack on a mat fail and they sent me a new one in the post immediately.
