Very friendly polite and helpfull staff. I have tried almost all of the bakery items and will be back constantly for more. They sell fresh milk eggs etc definitely highly recommended but save me a few scotch eggs as they are my favourite lol

If your a local you should already know of the 'Mad Butcher' of Winkleigh, if your a tourist then you should definitely pay a visit!

This is one of the best butchers in Devon, the shop is small but the welcome is massive. The food quality on offer is great, they even have Jersey milk which coffee lovers will enjoy.

A good range of local chutneys and honey and the scotch eggs and cooked chickens are all excellent.

A friendly service and humourous staff all help the mix for a great shopping experience.

Home delivery is available also and staff are always accommodating. Enjoy some good Devon food and BBQs to rave over.

Great quality meat and a good selection of cuts. The gluten free breakfast sausages are lovely - very tasty and none of my family noticed they were gluten free. Belly pork on the bone was great smoked and the chuck steak made a fantastic casserole - definitely worth a visit. The hot stuff at lunch looked good - will try next time!

Very friendly welcome and meat that I have not experienced the like since childhood. I traveled past two farm shops because if the 5 star reviews and I would say the Mad Butcher is with all the 5 stars he has received already. Fabulous meat and I'll be back for more. Oh, and the scotch eggs were the best ever.

The freshest and juiciest sausages, bacon, burgers and steaks ever.
AMAZING quality at a fabulous price. All local produce too. I was served by the friendly and delightful Barry, the Mad Butcher himself. Highly recommended. Order your Christmas Turkey in June if you can as they are sooooo busy!

So, we spent a week in Winkleigh in 2021. 2022 we stayed way down on the south coast of Devon. We decided we should make a pilgrimage up to the Mad Butcher. THAT'S how good their sausages are! I was a little worried I'd been waiting a whole year and 'bigging it up' to myself, setting myself up for a disappointment. That was not the case. Cooked over the campfire, they were every bit as tasty as I remembered!! Always a good selection of various flavours, too!

Fantastic meat and deli - rib of beef yo die for and homemade scotch eggs a must!
