Ok, so I know people make mistakes but unfortunately it’s a mistake that could and should have been avoided.
I’d taken my Specialized kenevo here twice now for a full grade 4 services, which is really costly as you would expect!
So this second time, I had supplied all the components to replace gear set, jockey wheels, chain, and chainring. Got the bike back after a few days after the service and thought everything was ok. That was until I decided to take it out on a ride and found my gears jumping mid-range between 4 and 5. I thought it was simply the derailer set up so simply adjusted the play on the cable and thought I’d fix at home. Job solved. Or so I thought!
Upon closer inspection it was not the derailer adjustment but the fact that the 4th and 5th cogs were literally touching each other. There was no spacer in-between the gears which was causing the chain to rumble and jump about because it could not connect to the gear. I was at this point furious! I mean how the hell can this be missed when it’s been serviced?
I phoned the shop but it took me ages to speak with someone on the phone. I tried multiple times before I had to phone through to sales and state I was wanting to speak with the repairs dept. Told them it had been in for a full grade 4 service and that upon inspection my gear set (that I had bought myself for them to replace) had been incorrectly installed. Guy on the phone sounded bewildered, like he didn’t know what to say. Got it booked in so they can fix the issue. No way am I paying for this balls up!
What I want to know is, how the hell can something like this be missed? Simple, they haven’t checked the bike over once everything was sorted. Seems to me they’ve simply just banged the new gear set on and failed to test ride the bike. I mean even having it on a work stand would fire up the problem! So maybe it was done by a blind one armed man? Who knows. Something as major as this that’s been overlooked and not checked before the customer comes back to pick the bike up, pay a fortune for it, and expect it to work perfectly only to find it doesn’t!
If I hadn’t found the issue my chain and gear set would’ve been damaged beyond use. That’s what annoys me most.
I’ve uploaded some photos so you can see the problem. As the photos show, the 4th and 5th cog are literally touching. They hadn’t put in the spacer. Not good at all.
Infinity Cycles, you’re only as good as your first mistake. And for me, this mistake has cost you a customer and a truthful review of the bad service I encountered. Even though they have rectified the problem and unreservedly apologised, and yes I know mistakes are made, but it shouldn’t have happened.
Advice to other customers, double check your bike before you leave.
