The Hook House Hotel is a beautiful English country house - as is often the case with such properties there is a certain characteristic that some would call period charm others would say a bit scruffy. This was the end of the first day of a 4 day off road cycle trip along the King Alfred ‘s Way. So with the onset of the first buttock contusions we were welcomed warmly by the hosts who gave us a secure charging facility for our depleted bikes. The rooms are clean, crisp and cosy - a welcome bath ( really hot water if you need it) with an integral shower and a big double bed. |The supper offering is limited to a range of pizzas which were very very good( we were aware of this having stayed here a year ago) The red wine was very drinkable and reasonable priced, the service was good and with a smile and some banter! - always welcome !! |In the morning we had a very good English breakfast which was everything we wanted to launch us into our 2nd day in the saddle !! |All in all a great place to stay and a warm welcome from the hosts and staff - we would definitely recommend this hotel

Another great stay. Room was nice and spacious. I didn’t have dinner but the breakfast was good- not quite a full English, but the main items were there; gluten free bread was available on request. |Ample parking and the hotel is set in a quiet area away from the main road.

We had a lovely stay here. It felt like our hosts most important focus was on guests. Beutiful art displayed around the hotel adds to all the other interesting things.|Super relaxed and accommodating. We played croquet on the lawn, we sat in the garden, and breakfasts were amazing. We are very glad we stayed there. Dog friendly and we all felt right at home and the beds were super comfy!

Not trying to be anything it’s not. This beautiful listed hotel is a true find and I will be coming back. Fabulous approach, sweeping drive, extensive gardens and grand staircase. Very friendly hosts. The hotel has a faded glory charm about it. But everything is clean. Bed is comfy, shower is unbelievably powerful and the full English breakfast is included and delicious. ||As readers of my other hotel reviews know, I rate on bed, breakfast and shower as these are what make or break it for me on a trip. ||This hotel scores 10 across the board.||Please support this private hotel. It’s a hidden gem.

We booked this hotel as we needed somewhere fairly close to Stratfield Saye, country home of the Duke of Wellington. |We arrived the day before our pre-booked visit but were a bit stuck for ideas as the weather was too hot to do much exploring. Thankfully the very helpful lady on Reception gave us some great suggestions including beautiful West Green House Gardens for a wander in the shade and the excellent and historic Mill House pub for lunch. Both were only a short drive from Hook House and were well worth visiting. |Our room, on the top floor, was reasonably cool despite the weather as there was a tower fan and windows that opened easily. |We both slept well. The cooked buffet style breakfast was tasty - especially the scrambled eggs. We also had the added bonus one morning of seeing two young foxes playing on the lawn!|Hook House is a lovely quirky, characterful place with attentive, friendly staff. We’d definitely stay there again.

Absolutely brilliant. The hotel is family run and they really are the kindest people. I had a gluten free pizza and honestly, probably the best GF pizza base I’ve had. |Room was nice.. it was a single deluxe. |Breakfast was good.. gluten free bread was available for toast.

We had a one night stay and were shown up to our attic room on arrival. Then the heavens opened and it poured! Unfortunately, the ceiling sprang two leaks, one by the television plug and one just by the door. It was very heavy rain indeed - so much so, that the local supermarket car park was flooded and the place that we booked for dinner in Hook became an island and closed for the night just as we turned up! So, it was exceptional rain, with hailstones, thunder and lightning.|Our hosts upgraded us to the king's suite (top right, first floor on the front view), which was much more luxurious and even had a four-poster bed.|Breakfast was a good, full English. In the large room where we ate, there was an art exhibition, with various artists represented. Very interesting and the whole experience was enjoyable.|We hope that the owners get the roof fixed soon but it probably won't be tested like that for a very long time to come.|Recommended.
