Made an order tonight which according to their menu added up to £21.90. The manager saw fit to round it up & told me it was £22. I didn’t argue as I knew that reaching £22 meant I qualified for a free portion of prawn crackers.
However, the free crackers weren’t there upon collection. When I challenged the manager, he was rude and tried to laugh it off. Eventually, he did concede that I qualified for the free portion and offered me a small portion as I already had prawn crackers in my order. I declined.
I don’t care about the crackers, but I do care about the principle and will not be ripped off.
This is the 2nd time in 3 years that this take away has put a few pennies ahead of basic customer service. I won’t use them again.
PS - Have subsequently checked other reviews and several make mention of the rude staff and poor customer service.

Had a very enjoyable Chinese from here last night. We asked for it to be delivered no earlier than a certain time and they were happy to accommodate and it arrived on time. The food was hot and delicious and loads of it! Will not hesitate to order from here again.

After a few dodgy deliveries, the secret is to order and wait. When the food is really fresh, it's great. The sausces stay thick and flavorful and the meets soft and tender.

I have always used another Chinese in Hockley found on the high street but my last chouple of orders from them have not been that great so I though I would give this one a go for the first time. I have to say that every dish I ordered was much nicer and they delivered which the other take away doesn't. The chap taking my order was very nice on the phone and the order was delivered in 45 minutes which I would always expect for a Friday night especially as I live at the other end of Hockley. My only negative which is minor was that the plum sauce was too watery but still tasted ok. This is now my Chinese of choice in Hockley

Thought I would stray from my normal Chinese for a change and let’s just say i won’t be doing that again.

Very disappointed, when ordering I found gentleman short and curt and if he concentrated on customer at a time instead of answering phone he might of got my order correct.

In terms of food is was barely luke warm (even though we ordered in shop and drove home 4 minute drive), rice and chow mien looked like they had not even seen a wok. Overall a bland, cold mush sorry but not returning. Waste of £35.

Having grown up in the takeaway trade, I will say Gold Lion prepares Chinese takeaway food as it should be done! Have been a customer for few years and will keep going back. Fresh ingredients, decent sized portions, friendly staff.

I have used this as our takeaway of choice for well over 2 years now. Food is very good. But 3 times in the last few weeks the order has been incorrect. The staff have been rude, implying that it is my fault, not theirs. I will not be using them again!

Used for a number of years sadly yhe Last 3 take outs have not been great dry and lacking in sauce and not particularly hot
