I love every visit to Cordelia James. Each item I purchase becomes a trusted investment that lasts in my wardrobe.
I enjoy the team's help and support in choosing what suits my style and appreciate the way I am encouraged, on occasion, to try something different.
Definitely not the most petite or small of their clientele, I love the quality of the fabrics and the shapes which suit my figure.
I come away from the experience, with or without a purchase, having a better understanding of my individual style, to help me make even better selections of pieces to enhance my wardrobe.
Good Service is rarer to find in stores nowadays and Cordelia James' team work hard to maintain their high standards of integrity and service, no matter what the budget.

Having made an impulse purchase on Monday this week, my own fault for not trying the dress on in the shop, when I got home I decided a different size would be more suitable. I looked up the number of the shop and came across the google reviews. OMG what interesting reading all of which I can agree with. I rang the store on Tuesday and explained I would like to swap the size over. It was explained they don't offer exchanges let alone refunds especially on sale goods. The very lovely lady who originally served me did not explain their procedure. I was told if I came in as a special circumstance I could swap sizes. I arrived on Wednesday with my neatly folded dress and receipt in the bag and asked for a different size. This was reluctantly and handled in a very off hand manor, it was pointed out they do not normally allow this. The assistant then went on to examine my return as though it was carrying some tropical decease. I am a shopper, a serious shopper and have never encountered such outrageous customer service. This is a high end clothes retailer not deserving of any customers. I will not be shopping there again and regret giving the owner any of my money.

I work in a service industry dealing with millions pounds worth of goods and never have I received a bad review only the opposite.
This archaic and overall very short sighted way of dealing with customers surely will not help their profits long term.

My advice is steer clear.

DREADFUL experience.
I purchased an expensive cashmere jumper, on a holiday visit, after trying on two sizes. I bought the larger size. When I went to wear this, 10 days later, I realised they'd packed the wrong size.
They refuse to accept a return - for an exchange - not refund, so I am stuck with a £260 jumper that does not fit me. This was their error.
The staff, or maybe owner, is snooty & defensive. Can't believe that's the way they think they'll get more business. AWFUL EXPERIENCE.

(After owners response) The error is yours, you packed the wrong item. This is unhelpful and rigid. I was not trying to exchange an item that I changed my mind about. Will be pursuing ..

My mum and I always visit Cordelia James when in Lewes and it's always full of beautiful pieces. The ladies in the shop are super welcoming but equally never too much - there's no pressure to purchase which is very appreciated. It's so lovely to have a local shop curating stunning pieces - a must visit when in Lewes!
