Delicious Festive Afternoon Tea today. Everything was very tasty and some different little things like the puff pastry filled with pickle and cheese yum! The trifle and sponge cake with chocolate top was delish. Brought our scones, mince pie and a couple of cakes home for later ?

We took my partner's mother for afternoon tea today, for her birthday. My partner had booked in advance and asked for my afternoon tea to be gluten free. There was a little wait when we arrived and then they couldn't find our table but after a short while we were sorted. Our cutlery and plates were brought to us and they took our order for drinks. Then our afternoon tea arrived. The presentation was lovely the food tasted lovely and overall the whole experience was lovely. Being a fairly new coeliac I was over the moon that I could eat like the others. All the staff were friendly and we had a lovely afternoon. Would definitely recommend.

We happened upon Charnley's Home and Garden on a trip out and decided to stop off for a spot of lunch.
So glad we did. The staff were friendly and welcoming and, at our request, seated us on a lovely table outside. We were given menus and allowed sufficient time to peruse the options.
Being a straight forward sort of chap, I opted for the ham, eggs and chips, other members of our party chose the salt and pepper chicken burger, a Thai curry, the house salad, and the pork and hoisin tacos.
Drinks arrived immediately and the food very shortly thereafter.
Again, service was excellent and the food was piping hot.
My ham, eggs and chips were lovely, the burger was huge and delicious, the curry was delicately flavoured and perfect, the salad was excellent and plentiful, but the star of the show was the tacos. I can't recommend this place enough.
Well done to the front of house and back of house staff, you all deserve a big pay rise.

So much more than just a garden centre. Initial appearances can be deceiving, being much larger than it first appears and selling a good range of garden and home furnishings, from garden ornaments to sofas and beds.
There is also a cafe and gin bar which is definitely worth a visit. This is possibly one of the best breakfasts I have had in the lake district so far.

Visited Charnley's cafe with a view to having lunch. The cafe was not particularly busy. We were shown to a table by a very polite gentlemen who explained everything to us and told us that someone would be along shortly to take our order.
Nothing happened for twenty minutes. Then two customers were shown to a table near to ours. Within a few minutes a different waiter came to take their order. Once he had done so, I politely asked him whether he could also take our order. He glared and rudely asked if I would mind if he could finish what he was doing first, and then added that tables were dealt with by order of arrival. By now we had been waiting for twenty five minutes.
Based on that sort of hospitality, we left, and will certainly not set foot in there again. A word of advice to the bosses... teach that man some manners!

Charnley's Home & Garden is the perfect place to shop for plants, furniture, gifts and more. It also has a lovely, stylish restaurant, serving amazing food, drinks and delicious cake. Sam, Marc, Jules and the team are always so friendly, welcoming and helpful. Charnley's also do an awful lot for the local community, including St Mary's Hospice. They are always going out of their way to support their local hospice and nothing is ever too much. I would definitely recommend Charnley's for all your plant, gardening, furniture, gift and lunch needs. It is also great to support a business that does so much for it's local community!

Two sides to this place. The Bakehouse does a really nice flatbread for lunch and the Garden Centre has an extensive range of plants that can survive Cumbrian weather, lots of rain. Around the middle of October the Christmas shop opens which I’m told is great. Not my favourite season so will leave that to others to comment.
