An old coaching hotel offering basic accommodation at reasonable value. Downrated because on the afternoon of our stay we were contacted and told the evening meal would not be available because of a problem in the kitchen and did we want to continue with our booking. We were assured there was other alternatives for an evening meal in the village and the Pub across the road was recommended. The same assurance was given to us when we arrived but when we contacted the pub we were told us food was not available on Wednesdays (the night if our stay). There were two other alternatives in the village, the Salmon Inn with bar meals which did not seem that attractive and a fish and chip takeaway. With no other option we found the Salmon with a bar full of people but the barstaff took us into a rear room with dining facilities and some other diners at tables. Although the room was basic, the staff were attentive, the food, typical pub grub, was good and at fair prices. Nice real ale as well.||Back at the Blue Bell the room was ok for the price we paid, the breakfast was good and well served. No doubt worthy of a higher rate in normal circumstances

The staff were very nice and welcoming. However, the room was very basic with faded elegance and in great need of updating. The bedding was cheap and the sheet bubbled, making it a very uncomfortable night's sleep. The shower, also cheap and difficult to position to have a shower. The bath taps were old and fitted with the building while the sink taps, more modern, are the cheapest money could buy. However, the room was clean. We had a pleasant meal and breakfast was ok, though nothing to write home about. If you're looking for a basic stay with reasonable value for money it's fine. It would need updating before we would consider another visit.

We knew the rooms would be fairly basic, however the facilities were quite poor. The shower lacked any pressure and never got hot. The door to the room was very hard to close - we had to slam it and risk waking other residents up. The front of a bedside table fell off as soon as I placed my phone on top of it. ||Clearly short staffed - there was one person doing reception, bar and service. Staff were friendly but clearly put upon. The bar was adequate and made for a pleasant place to sit after a long day walking, some local ales on.||Breakfast was disappointing. Again, while we were not expecting a top breakfast, the quality was quite poor and service very very slow. It seemed like the food had been cooked at sat for a while, as the mushrooms were so shriveled and bacon and black pudding were hard. We asked for toast twice on 2 mornings and never received any, and this was despite the menu saying all breakfast come served with toast anyway. Again, since there was one person doing breakfast, things got missed. I did however have a big pile of smoked salmon which was good. We didn't bother having breakfast on our final day.||While there is a restaurant on site, we never managed to eat there. We had a table booked for one evening, but when we turned up we were told the chef had gone. The next day we were informed in advance that there would be no chef that evening when trying to book again. There are 2 other pubs in the village but they vary when they serve food - we ended up with a meal deal from the local coop a couple of times.||Nice old building with potential, but the whole business needs investment.

An old hotel in a lovely village, this also means the various quirks of old Hotels should be remembered.
Hot water etc.
Evening meal was very good and added to with a nice breakfast.
Room was comfortable and equipped with usual tea/coffee biscuits. Hot water took a while to arrive but it did .
Lovely split level outdoor beer garden area with grass area for children/adult play.
A nice comfortable stay.

So bad. Broken door to our courtyard bedroom number 24. Terrible noise all night of engine revving 30 x 6 times in the hour from 3 pm when we checked in until 4 am. No sleep was had. |Breakfast was appalling. Dirty tables. No resources from any staff on service. Don’t waste your money. Go elsewhere. You have been warned. Cant believe they take your money and can’t deliver for even a fraction of what you have paid.

Even though price seem to be really good considering the great location I believe this place is lacking a good manager. I understand that this building is very old and I am all for it however that should not stop the owner from keeping it tidy and organised. On the day of arrival the Chef walked out so we were informed that the kitchen is closed for the day with the hope of reopening the next day. For the entire stay of total of 3 nights this place stunk like the worst chip shop that has never change the frying oil. Rooms need deep clean- some insect died on the lamp shade in the bathroom long time ago(probably not an issue as the main light did not work anyway). Mold growing on the bathtub covered with layer of silicone. One of the vintage style(all in brass) bathtub tap knobs replaced with a silver/plastic one. Wallpaper is peeling off, curtains are just filthy. Linens clean, bed mattress very soft- I know it's up to personal liking however there is soft and cheap soft. This was the second one. It's a shame as the entire place is covered in pictures from the past when I believe it was in it's glory, now it's a poor mixture of everything and nothing, getting customers purely due to location and decent price. In regards to the breakfast (included in the price of room) even though we ordered the same thing every single day it looked completely different. First day fried to the point you could not pick the bacon using cutlery, tiny portion, second day was ok, third day black pudding missed. Service dependent on the mood of the crew. I would say 2 helpful and friendly 2 completely in the wrong business.

This hotel is like walking back in time 50 years ago. It’s extremely dated. The shower fell apart and cut my leg. The shower is like a dribble of water, never seen anything so bad. Even a £10 tap shower would have done better. The floor boards are so uneven you could trip on them through the carpet. Don’t get me started on the smells. It’s beyond old. When needed help to find something the staff couldn’t care less. Really not helpful in the slightest. Highly incompetent. I wouldn’t pay £20 for the night there. DONT GO HERE
