A fantastic cottage. The Counting House was warm, inviting and well equipped. We spent a week here for our 20th wedding anniversary and had a fantastic stay. I highly recommend the Hope and Anchor just a very short walk away. Very friendly staff and great food. In fact we ate here 4 nights out of 7.

The cottage was gorgeous inside and out and has the best bathroom I have ever used. The bed was very comfortable and we had everything we needed within easy reach.

I hope to go back again in the future. Thank you Alison and Peter for providing such a memorable experience for us.

We had a terrific stay at the Counting House just after New Year 2025. Can't fault it in any way - comfortable and warm with a particularly luxurious bathroom. Wirksworth is great too. Lovely Bistro and Italian plus the quirky Red Lion all within staggering distance. Dodgy weather meant we weren't sure if we'd be able to drive home on the day we were due to leave and Alison and Peter were very flexible and kind with giving us the potential choices of staying an extra night or having a late checkout.

The Counting House is a credit to Alison & Peter who were the perfect hosts. Everything was provided that you could possibly need for a luxury and comfortable stay in a homely, and beautifully designed house in a perfect location for visiting other areas as well as staying in the lovely Wirksworth centre. The whole house is a labour of love, with so much thought and quality put into it. Our favourite rooms were the relaxing romantic bathroom and also the bedroom was amazing, the mural over the bed had been exquisitely hand painted by themselves and the very comfortable bed had lovely quality white bedding.
Covid, cleanliness was a priority, and welcoming provisions greeted us on arrival.
We enjoyed our stay in The counting House so much, that we decided to stay longer and not move on as originally planned, which was no problem for them, and we had the pleasure of meeting Alison, a very friendly and caring lady, bringing us a replenishment of towels.
We are already looking forward to our next visit in the future.

We had an amazing stay at 'The Counting House'. Alison and Peter were amazing hosts, and went above and beyond to make sure that their home was 'Covid compliant'.

I imagine that no expense has been spared setting this holiday rental up.

The house is beyond beautiful, a Georgian gem that Jane Austen would have been proud to call her own. It is furnished beautifully in period styles, with a lovely compact outside seating area that catches the afternoon sun.

The bedroom is luxurious, and the bathroom, well, is beyond luxurious.

A real bonus was the rover car parking pass, which was greatly appreciated.

Wirksworth is a beautiful small Derbyshire market town getting on with being just that. We were welcomed wherever we went.

Would I stay here again?

Absolutely, in fact, we would have quite happily have not gone home.

I went to The Counting House for a quiet week of academic study in a quaint, quirky town. The study went well and the accommodation and town were just what I needed. Great indoor surroundings for my work and then wonderful walking and eateries and shopping (notably Scarthins Books at Cromford) were wonderful. The bedroom mural is wonderful, with a luxurious bathroom. The general feel of being in a historic house was real privilege.
