High end quality knitwear made of the finest yarn's available , not cheap but if you appreciate quality and style and , know how long it takes to produce these fine gauge garments you don't mind paying the little bit extra . The staff are the most polite and friendly and are eager to advise on your luxury purchase , " without being pushy !!! . I know many celebrities shop here and it's not unusual to bump in to the od one on their day off . I have seen people spending a kings ransom here and seen people spending a modest sum on a pair of socks , but all John smedley customer's get the highest levels of service and quality as standard. This company has always been a progressive employer and has always in its history supported the local community , long may it continue to do so . A must place visit for the serious shopper and for the industrial heritage enthusiast .

I drove up from London last weekend - first time visit for me & it was a very pleasant experience & all round well worthwhile .
Obviously it's Smedley gear so you know that it's going to excellent quality (& you'll definitely find something , even if it's not exactly what you're looking for ) but what marked the experience & made the day was the help and attention given by Angie , Julie & Iris . They really couldn't have done more & actively helped me find gifts for the family .... and of course myself 😉 They really went above and beyond what you'd expect from a factory shop experience , helping with their suggestions , constantly pointing me to the right section and just generally being brilliant . Thank you so much ladies , I realise that I was probably quite annoying at times , but you really made my day !!
I shall definitely come back soon !

Well worth a visit if you love their fine sea island cottons / merinos. I got an emerald cardi second but it's really hardly noticeable, I love it ! If you're in the area the Cromford Wharf cafe is nice and the interesting history of cotton mills is something to learn about at the Cromford Mills museum there

John Smedley is probably the best quality English knitwear .
I’m so proud we have them in Derbyshire and couldn’t recommend them more, for quality , classic design and every seasons staple knitwear.

The mill shop is located in a lovely part of England. Retail prices are a rip-off and extortionate so well worth a visit. The staff are really friendly. . That said the displays are a mess, and the clothes need to be presented in a much nicer manner. Proper changing rooms needed. The company has not invested in its factory store. It needs to - celebrate your history, the .Made in UK' tag, become more inviting which in turn will increase sales. And offer a refund policy that works. A voucher does not help! Would have bought a lot more if I had piece of mind.
