I knew of this place only from it's previous incarceration as a shopping centre. It's new incarnation took a while to penetrate. We got the X17 from home in Chesterfield, it stopped outside Masson Mill. Once we ignored the empty bit we entered via the gift shop cum factory leftovers cum café. Nice food. A single person ran the café, sold tickets and showed where to go next. Food and drink was most acceptable .No guided tours on Easter Monday so it was a care of figuring it out for oneself. The barcode links were useful on my smartphone and give specific histories and showed videos. A curator, dressed in mill -made peasant cloth ran several lots of machines. She chatted when not involved in nursing the machines into life. It helps if you know about the history of power weaving and spinning. The Jacquard looms were great as I remembered those cards as the input methods of early main frame computers. The stairs were difficult for myself as my mobility is not so good. Very large steps.
More staff needed as and when finances improve. We recommend this to anyone interested in our industrial history .

Great, informative museum. Lovely to see the cotton looms working. Nice cafe and shop. Allow at least 2 hours to fully appreciate the museum. QR codes provide extra info as you go round.

An amazing trip through history to the industrial revolution and into a more modern times, a lot of history intermingled with a trip down memory lane. This museum is well worth a visit. Take the guided tour to learn how our forefathers lived and worked and the dangers they had to endure. Days long, long before Health and safety!!

Despite the signs and reviews, the shopping village closed in March 2020. The coffee and gift shop has a nice ambience. There is EV charging, which is otherwise very hard to find in this area. Priced well, however, you have to also pay for parking so unless you are visiting the museum it becomes less well priced.

A bit misleading - Google says the museum opens at 8.30am (verified with the museum recently). Two large A boards outside the museum say "MUSEUM OPEN".
Is the museum open at 8.30am? Nope. 11am.
Still, I had a nice scone in the café, while the lady behind the counter apologetically explained to two more tourists that 8.30 actually means 11, and open means closed.

Visited today, Was a little confused how to get in to the museum but the young lady on the counter was very helpful. The price is a little steep for what you get in the museum but knowing its going to help the business helps. A stones throw from Cromford Mills makes a nice little walk after.

Very nice building from the outside. The sign at the fence says the museum is open for visitors. So we pay the carpark and go in. But, the museum is closed! Wintertime. Only the visitor center is open for tea or something. Even google said the museum would be open. So, we paid the carpark for nothing. What a bullshit. They collect money for visisting nothing.

Is a great shopping experience has a museum and a lovely restaurant looking over the river the staff were all lovely and very helpful plenty of car parking with a small fee for example £2 for 2 hours but then you get £1 token to spend at the masson mills. I had a lovely afternoon tea for two and it was delicious in the restaurant and it was only £15
