Portion of hot smoked salmon was perfect and the flavor/aroma of the smoke just wonderful on this gloomy day exploring the country. You can enjoy a commanding view of the valley — and a steam engine go by if lucky. We did not make a reservation and there was no availability online — but still found a table with a view for lunch.

Good sized carpark. Playground for the children. Railway line at the bottom of the hill. Outside seating. Very friendly and helpful staff. Good clean toilets. Beautiful views of the countryside. Good decor and varied menu choices. And even though some people might think it's expensive, each meal was cooked to perfection, and the portion sizes big.

We had 6 in our party for Sunday lunch. We were seated promptly and drinks were served quickly. We all ordered the Roast Beef Sunday Lunch and 6 dinners were served within 15 minutes. We all said it was a gorgeous meal from the roast beef to the cauliflower cheese to the horse radish sauce, it was all mouth watering. Very busy Sunday afternoon, so would definitely book your table before you go. Fantastic seating outside with amazing views of the Cotswold countryside. Play area for the smaller kiddies and a tennis court for hire for the teenagers. Definitely worth a visit!!

We rang to see if we could stay over in our motorhome. Booked a table for dinner. Had burger & chips (disappointing fries) and fish & chips (lovely - chunky chips much better). Lovely pub, world return.

We found this pub a few months back. The view is outstanding. For this reason I thought we’d celebrate an anniversary. We were given a gorgeous table and the service and bar staff are very good. However we were there for a meal. The starters of Prawn Cocktail (a bit bland) and Whitebait (good) was ok, the main meal of Sea Trout (looked like from a Supermarket) with new potatoes (dry) & samphire. then I had langoustines(4 of with no flesh at all, so very very poor) Salmon (good) prawn cocktail (sauce was bland) crab (bland) crispy squid (very nice) and bread (very good) plus fries 3 pints of bitter & large Red Wine for £104. The menu was good but we wanted something a bit different but were left disappointed to say the least. I do love this pub so will visit again but to eat, I’m not sure

The Royal Oak, in a word, is perfect. The food is great, served by friendly staff, in a fantastic setting. The decor, menu and drinks selection are spot on too. There is now a great kids play area outside as well. We've been twice and will be back again!
