2 of us visited on Friday having travelled from the West Midlands for a relatives birthday celebration in Newcastle. We wanted to purchase a plant & pot as a present, this decision finally being made on the journey! The village was delightful & the garden centre quaint. The cafe was busy, the cakes & coffee were very good & not expensive. However a big thank you to John for potting the plant & sorting out a bow. He was helpful, funny & friendly! My son & his wife went the following morning after we told them of our experience. They too had a great visit. All the best

Disappointed with a rude member of staff in the tea room. Apart from that it was fine, it's our second visit here recently but we won't be going back.

We took my mum for an early mother's day treat. Ordered two scones and three cappucinos. Scones were handed over straight away as I paid so I took them to the table and waited for the cappucinos. It was only then that I noticed no jam with the fruit scone.

I went back to the counter after I collected the coffees and took them to the table and asked if it was possible to have a jam as they were next to the butters behind the counter. The lady who served me the coffees was busy I think as she had her back to me or she didn't hear me. Anyway the lady who was working the till heard me at the other end of the counter so came down and explained they were 30p, I had already paid using my card for everything so I explained I didn't have any change and it didn't matter, no big deal. At that point the lady with her back to me said "oh he wanted one for free did he!", the way she said it was extremely rude not even turning to speak to me. Took me by complete surprise..

This all happen at about 11am so quite early in the morning before it was too busy or stressful so I'm not sure what the problem was. But her manner was really awful and completely uncalled for.

Note - I was never offered jam when ordering the scone.

The staff seem really unhappy and generally grumpy, the first time we visited they were cracking jokes about counting down to home time but it does actually seem to be the general attitude.

No apology offered for the comments made

Came here last week for the first time after being recommended. Such a beautiful place selling plants, garden ornaments, a great variety of seeds, gifts, lots of unique little things. Thoroughly enjoyed my look around. There’s also an outdoor area with a lovely little cafe which of course was closed at this moment in time but when this is over I’d love to return and check it out. I’ve also been told to come at Christmas time as they have a great fair which I will definitely be visiting! A true hidden gem 🌻🌼🍄.

Disappointed with the afternoon tea for a party
Quality is going downhill.
Service was very poor.
One lady to serve a room full of 60 at a party Felt so sorry for her. She did fab but that's appalling service.
Cakes dry 😢
Only had two cups of tea
Why don't you just leave pots of coffee/tea on table? Wouldn't that also save you the hassle of serving it.
Not worth the price tag unfortunately

Love the gift shop but extremely disappointed with lunch today. I ordered a cheese and onion toasted sandwich. The bread was so thin I thought they'd used a tortilla wrap instead of white bread. It was like eating cardboard. I didn't complain because I was with company and didn't want to cause a fuss. I don't know how someone thought that was acceptable to give to a customer.

A great selection of plants and accessories.
The food in the cafe is good, if a tad expensive. Overall though, a great visit.

Great garden centre near the centre of Durham.
Visited here because we knew they took the 'National Garden Centre' Vouchers - a lot bigger than expected, we arrived just as it opened so was quiet but as leaving lots of cars filling up the car park - which has an overflow so must get busy.
Some of the non-plant items are a little expensive, however we bought a patio fruit tree and young Holly - both at prices expected at any garden centre, but looking healthy. In fact all the plants looked very healthy and well looked after. Wide range of planters and pots, some at a very good price, and a decent range of compost, gravel and fencing.
