We had a lunch here. Extensive menu at decent prices. I had ham eggs and chips - huge portion and chips were fabulous. My wife had the vegetarian lasagne which was well prepared and very tasty. Staff were friendly and nice. Only slight criticism is that decor is a little tired and it is a little dark inside.

Great place on the outskirts of Durham.

We ate here twice during a 4 night stay in the area. Both times, we were impressed with the quality and service.

Large selection of food to choose from, with a great pudding selection as well.

Parking car be a little tricky when it's busy, and you also can't pre-book for parties smalled than 6, which would be my only concerns with this place.

I can highly recommend from our experiences!

Had my Daughters 30th Birthday here last night and I have to give the staff the service and the food 5 stars.
Everything from start to finish was top class the staff can not do enough for you and any thing requested is done straight away with no problems they all are a credit to the business.
The food is out of this world I cannot recommend the beef and ale pie enough I've never had a pie like it packed to the brim with top quality meat. Everyone in the party ordered different food and everyone said the food was top class.
So in general I highly recommend this establishment and will be a regular customer.

I had a lovely stay here, a lovely welcome on arrival, it’s a lovely old building with plenty of character. My room was cosy, it had everything required, walk in shower was very good, the bed was comfortable, halls were narrow but this will be down to the age of the property.
I never experienced the food in the evenings but I will say breakfast was delicious.
Don’t be deterred by the road, I could barely hear anything when in my room and this was road side.
Overall, a pleasant stay, staff were lovely.
Thank you.

Attacked this as a solid family unit yesterday. Gave us a really big table to accommodate a pushchair which made everything loads easier for us.

Normally I do a breakdown of the individual dishes but safe to say 4 star is more than fair. All the food was really tasty and for 6 of us to eat with a 4 pints it cost us £92. Insanely good value for money.

This is a proper old style pub and a lot of the people here go here regularly but on the off chance you’re not local and looking for some great value, I’d highly recommend this place. Portion size was also decent for the money!

Ssshh... I'm telling you this on the quiet....if you want to have an amazing pub dine out, then this absolutely brilliant independent pub/restaurant with genuine homemade food needs to be on your list. A proper pub. Extensive menu options makes choosing your lunch/dinner a lengthy process as it's all yummy. The portions are large, so be prepared to slump on the seats having taken the last mouthful. I'm not joking.
I'm not going to spoil the menu here either, go see it for yourself. Prices are very reasonable, and if you can squeeze in pudding, the british classics await to sounds of more 'I just cant finish it...but its good good to leave'. The team are lovely and friendly with great service. It's a very busy place and parking can be tight, especially on weekends. Dog and child friendly. Good drinks selection, wifi etc. So go and enjoy but if you do visit....keep quiet about it..it's our little secret, we don't want everyone knowing how good it is!!!

We visited for the first time today, hoping to find a new spot for Easter lunch. After reading some positive reviews, we decided to give it a try. The staff were welcoming and friendly, which we really appreciated. Unfortunately, the food didn’t live up to expectations.

The lamb was inedible, tasted as if it had been boiled and wasn’t fresh. The vegetables lacked flavour and the only redeeming part of the meal was the gravy. The chicken dinner was slightly better, but still very bland overall.
We did mention it and nothing was said, won’t be returning.

Absolutely outstanding.

The service is amazing, run by the loveliest people. The food is just beautiful, and the menu has a very good selection.

I will most certainly be visiting next time I’m in Durham on business. And I’ll be recommending as the place to go for the rest of my colleagues too.
