Best restaurant in Winchester!
Amazing value!
Quality of the food is incredible
The batter on the fish was extremely light and the chips were cooked to perfection also includes unlimited chips
Also, had pork and haggis scotch egg which was delicious
The kitchen and waiting staff were attentive and welcoming
We sat up at the kitchen bar, which was a great place to watch the chefs make their magic!
Highly recommended, and will definitely be returning!

Went in mid-afternoon and ordered a large chips - they were AMAZING! Light, fluffy and tasty!

The chips are cooked separately from meat and fish in veg oil so vegan & vegetarian!

The staff are lovely and friendly. The young lady serving didn’t know about cooking methods so maybe a bit more training to help customers with allergies or dietary requirements but other than that absolutely fab.

Have been to Shoal a number of times, and the food never disappoints! Always delicious and good-sized portions.
Slightly let down today by slow service (was not busy) when waiting a while to receive our bill and then to take payment.
Otherwise we really enjoyed our lunch and will definitely be returning!

Very good fish and chips plus the mushy peas were good as well. The cod was fried just right. It was rainy when I was there but on a clear day the park next door would be a GREAT place to enjoy a meal!

We found this place by chance and it was marvellous. The best fish & chips we had for a long time. If you come for lunch before 2 pm you can have a special deal.
Lovely cup of tea and special bread rolls. The staff was very friendly and cheerful. Definitely going back.

Modern interior in a beautiful old building. Just on the outskirts of the city center.
the tables are a bit squashed together.
I didn't like my pie but that was personal preference. I wish i had gone for the chicken one. It's a glorified chippy and the chips were absolutely spot on

This is a fantastic restaurant. We came here on a Saturday afternoon. Firstly, the food arrived very quickly after we ordered. We ordered the North Atlantic Cod and chips. The fish was absolutely enormous, and were very pleasantly surprised to find out the chips were unlimited. We had it with some brilliant curry sauce and tartare sauce, which was great. Once we were done we had the ice cream which was also fantastic. The service was good, and the food was very reasonably priced. I would absolutely come back here again, and would thoroughly recommend it.

The best fish and chips I've ever had. The fish had a great crispy batter and was so tender and flaky! The chips were well seasoned and crispy - they're unlimited, but they give you so much that we couldn't eat more.

There is a lunch special with a roll and a drink and it's a great value!

Would 100% return.
