Having decided to convert our existing bikes (1988 Specialized Rockhopper and a 2002 Trek Navigator) to “E” spec I considered all the UK options. Cytronex stood out with good reviews and most importantly because it offered smooth, quiet electric assist and the ability to easily refine the power levels for various terrains. The pre-sales support I got from Sam and Jake was prompt and helpful, my orders were processed well within the suggested timeframe and delivery was prompt. I completed both installations in just a couple of hours using my own tubes and tires.
My conclusion? A very well made e bike kit, well designed and engineered. Might not be the cheapest option out there but taking into account the weight, range, degree and ease of user control and fitting if you are happy with your existing bike it’s a “ no-brainer”.
In use the motor is exceptionally quiet. The power is delivered smoothly and any concerns about front wheel motors causing wheel spin and loss of grip on badly cambered corners seem entirely unfounded. Control via the Boost Button is easy with perhaps my only concern being that when you turn the Boost Button off it remembers the power level it was set at. So if you turned it off at the top of a steep hill on maximum power you may get a shock if you next turn it on when on level ground! My wife and I are in our 70’s and the conversions have greatly extended our cycling range and enjoyment. Next job is a part kit to convert my road bike. Thank you Cytronex for an exceptional product and superb customer service.

Had Cytronex system fitted to my light weight rim brake race bike for at least two years now and can honestly say it was a great decision. I cycle further and without any anxiety over the hills I climb as I have a heart condition. A couple of months back I fitted Cytronex to my hybrid disc brake bike too and using the battery across both bikes. I have both a summer bike and a winter bike with mudguard option to use now. When I compare that to others with one 5k bike against my two bikes I love, that fit me perfectly, for an outlay of just under 2k it was the best decision to get me into electric powered cycling. Great service from the shop too.

At 76 years old and after a 10 year forced layoff from any cycling the fitting to my touring bike of the Cytronex system has been a life-changer.
After some initial conversations with Jake at Cytronex I took my bike to the shop for an assessment and had a trial ride on a loan bike fitted with the system. Jake was fantastically helpful, patient, painstaking and knowledgeable and we agreed a system fitting which included a front wheel built to match the rear wheel and the fitting of their optional front and rear light system which runs off the Cytronex battery. Jake also made suggestions for and carried out improvements to the existing breaking system.
The system is straightforward to use. Switching between power levels is smooth and easy, and the levels of power can be set and adjusted via the App. The App also gives easy access to battery level data and (I believe) sends data to Cytronex which enables them to provide remote system assistance should it be needed; this is reassuring though I have had no problems so far. Loading and unloading the battery from the bike is extremely easy and the battery can be locked to the frame if necessary. Charging is a simple plug-in process; I have the standard charger and it does everything claimed.
Its not an exaggeration to say it's given me the 10 years back as I am now able to do those long-forgotten or avoided day rides and short tours. As my fitness has improved I find I can limit application of the additional power to hills which I would otherwise not have been able to tackle, and in traffic where speed of progress is a safety advantage.
As to range I have never needed to empty the battery charge on a day ride, though the range will depend on many factors which will vary from rider to rider, and this might not apply to another rider.
All-in-all its a great system, a game-changer for me and Jake and the team at Cytronex are great to deal with.

I ordered a C1 conversion kit after having discussed features and measurements over several emails to Cytronex and the patience and dedication of their staff were incredible. The kit was easy to install, they provided a step-by-step video, and it works flawlessly. My bike is barely different than before the conversion. See before and after photos. I am very impressed by this company and their product.

"SO enjoying my first year on Cannondale’s CAAD12 + Cytronex, having researched a good range of e-bike options. However thoroughly one does so, the decision always comes with crossed-fingers … ‘was it the right choice, is it reliable’ … etc. I’d always thought going e would be a failure, a defeat, but having ridden for 20+ years both solo & on club group rides, my 70th year saw me having to work just too hard to keep up with mates, especially hills.

So far, it’s a straight 10/10 – absolutely delighted. Doesn’t feel like defeat – feels like freedom & fun. No more mates having to wait politely at the top. The Cytronex system feels properly engineered; the front hub is small, & the bottle battery is a light touch solution, both for weight & visually.

The Cannondale’s great handling is unaffected by the system, perhaps not surprising when the whole rig comes in at less than 12kg. The graded assist levels of 0/20/40/60/80/100% are all selected easily with the oval handlebar button. Using the assist minimally (I ride in & around the Surrey Hills) would see about up to a 90km. range for the battery. We have a small motorhome, & lifting the bike onto the rear carrier is made easier by being able to remove the bottle battery.

My wife has a Swytch Gen 2 Pro, and it’s glitched/failed a handful of times in 3-4 years on a ride - feels nowhere near as well engineered as the Cytronex, which does cost more, but feels, so far, & a few months in, comfortingly bulletproof. Overall, the Cytronex feels like the kind of system you’d be aiming to fettle yourself if you decided to set up a business making & selling an elegant, well-engineered system for folk who, like me, want some assist but not a full-on, heavier, big assist e-bike. Happy Days!"

Just had our two Brompton bicycles converted to electric by Cytronex, what a great system, We are so glad we took the plunge and had the bikes converted! The sales staff are great and lent us a couple of trial Brompton bikes prior to committing, the demo bikes sold the system immediately. The controller pad is great and operates the motor assit with a nice fluid application, the battery is easy to charge and install which does not hinder the folding aspect of the bike in anyway ten out of ten for a great British product and service.

Solid, reliable kit and very good customer service. So, I have to confess that I'm probably not the ideal Cytronex customer. I took a punt on a second hand Cytronex C1 ebike conversion kit going for a very good price on eBay marketplace. So they've not made anything off me. The kit was made in 2018 and used by a keen cyclist,I believe fitted to a carbon road bike with rim brakes. I swapped it onto a second hand Specialized Sirius. The cables only just reached - to the extent that the Boost button had to be set on the crossbar as it wouldn't reach the handlebars. So if you're planning something similar, I advise you get the cable lengths in advance to ensure it will fit your bike. I have just messaged customer service to see if I can convert to a larger bike so I'll update this if that is possible. But more importantly, how did I get on?
1. Customer service. I had some questions before I bought the kit, so messaged Cytronex. Each time they responded within a day. The information they provided was comprehensive and accurate, even though they realised they were not going to make much money off me ( so far only a tenner for them to send me the manual and app on a flash drive ).
2. Fitting the kit. The instructions in the manual, online guides and the build quality of the kit combined to make this straightforward. Care was needed to position the cadence sensor correctly, but the information was all there. I had to use standard cable ties in some places which are OK so far but believe they sell their bespoke ones on the website.
3. How is it? Especially considering it is a 6 year old kit, excellent. I normally leave it constantly set to low (25% - all the levels are adjustable through the app ) and get 25-30 miles from a charge. Simple maths ( hopefully accurate ) suggests that provides a 60W boost and takes the pain out of hills and makes cycling so much fun. I can still push myself as much as I want, I just get there faster. Unlike standard ebikes, I still have my normal 21 gears, so rarely need to increase my power level.
4. Practical with the power off? I recently did a short 2 day trip, 40 miles or so each day. As others were without the benefit of the motor, I spent most of the time with the motor off, just using it on the worse hills as a breather ( rather than blasting up on the motor and leaving my mate in my wake ). End of day 1, I'd used less than 25% battery: day 2, 50%.
5. Conclusion. Once set up, the bike has been very reliable. Only once knocked the cadence sensor out of line and this was easily resolved. The kit is quiet, discrete and very well put together. The battery is very easily removed which leaves very little temptation for the light-fingered. Power delivery is very smooth and generally just feels like it did when I was riding bikes 40 years ago.

The kit arrived within 3 weeks. Online measurements supplied resulted in a super neat and super easy fitting (bit of advice, check your tyre rotation).
Took the bike out for a quick test ride today. It is a ride I use to test how much I am in bike shape. When I reach the top of the dastardly hill I consider myself "fit enough" if I get there without getting off for a breather 100m from the top. Most often I am "not fit enough" on my Harry Hall. (90's road bike) I have never reached the top without maximum effort. Well today, on my super heavyweight MTB, electric power assist took me to the top and made me feel great doing it! That is the beauty of it. You still have to make the effort, change gears, but it so very nearly feels you are doing it all by yourself. I am super pleased with it. No idea yet about range but, wow, amazing!
Should add, just turned 71 and never "fit enough" \_(ツ)_/
