Had a lovely meal for 3 at The Downgate. From entering, it was welcoming, staff and locals that were in were lovely, friendly and chatty.
Great choice of meals, chargrilled steak, scampi and curry went down a treat. A well proportioned meal as well. As for the puddings.. well what a choice!! In the end two had bread pudding and custard and I had the Eton Mess,and both were delicious.
Would highly recommend and we will definitely be going back.

Joined up with friends as this is middle for each to travel. Booked a table for 4 the night before. Very welcoming, friendly pub. Food excellent, two young ladies behind the bar and serving the food very friendly and made us all feel really welcome. Definitely go again.

I would especially recommend this pub for lunchtime and a drink, the menu has your usual pub food including jacket potato, sandwiches, soup, and main meals. It has a nice atmosphere inside, nice decor, can eat inside and outside. Right on the edge of the common with plenty of parking, not far to walk from the town centre either.

Good service lovely cold pint but best of all I could sit across the road/cattle grid in the field with a terrific view of the canal, common and grazing cattle. Perfect.
