Think VERY carefully before spending any significant money with these guys. I bought an expensive cast iron table and four matching chairs - newly painted/restored. One of the chair legs has snapped off with 3 months’ use, revealing rust/rot underneath the paint. Department will not even entertain a replacement or a refund, stating they have a ‘black and white no return policy’ and all items are ‘sold as seen’ - an astonishing response when we are talking about a fault which was disguised at purchase (vs a known/visible defect/wear on a secondhand/vintage item).

In summary, excellent business model for ripping people off! Presents - and prices goods - as a retailer but claims to be ‘much like an antique fair or boot seller’ (their words) when things go wrong. I will be escalating due to breach of the Consumer Rights Act - a law which is applicable to sellers of new AND secondhand goods.

Having just moved to Hove, Department has been a delightful find. The staff are friendly and there's a nice selection of items for sale. We bought a great vintage locker and they even delivered it for us. Looking forward to finding more treasures!
