Spent the weekend here celebrating 80th birthday with a family meal for 13 of us. The staff were really friendly and it was tough for them because the snowy weather caused staff shortages but it was brilliant. Rooms were lovely, warm and comfy. Breakfast next morning was fab and the chap who was doing everything coped really well with a smile.|Definitely recommend staying here, it's in a great position for walking and sledging. There are craft shops, cafes and pubs close by.

I received a warm welcome from Brad, who showed me to my room and carried my luggage from my car. The room and ensuite was spacious, warm and clean. The bed was very comfortable. A high level of cleanliness was maintained for my whole stay. There was a good variety and choice on the menu most of which fitted or could be adapted for my diabetic requirements with the exception of alternatives to whole milk. I prefer semi skimmed and sugar free oat milk. The accommodation was entirely suitable for my requirements

The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming, with particular praise for the person in charge of breakfast. .

The hotel could benefit from some maintenance and attention to cleanliness. Specific issues included mould in the bathroom, a leak from the skylight, and visible cobwebs and dust behind the door. These details detracted from the overall experience.

Additionally, while the breakfast service was warm and hospitable, the quality of the food itself could be improved to match the standard of service.

I’ve stayed here a few times for our family get togethers and the experience was always good , however this year was very disappointing. The staff did a very good job in very difficult circumstances. Our preordered food was unavailable, also, no hot drinks which limited my choice and we were told that the bar was closing at 10 due to lack of staff. This meant that our family get together was almost non existent as we had to retire to our rooms at 10. Breakfast was good and the room was clean and comfortable. I do feel that we could have received prior warning as to the bar closure as we probably would have made other arrangements. Having looked forward to this family night, it was not a good experience sadly.

The hotel was clean and very warm. The staff were very friendly particularly the lady who was on at breakfast time. We had an evening meal and breakfast - both were lovely. Had a large room which was and clean with a comfy bed. Couldn’t have asked for anything else.

I would highly recommend this place to stay, it has a Fantastic breakfast and is reasonably priced. A special mention to Josh who went above and beyond to make the stay a pleasant experience. Would definitely come back again. Many thanks to Josh and the team.

The annex isn't sound proofed, this really affected my sleep, we were woken early both mornings by the very loud footsteps across the ceiling of the people upstairs - sounded like wooden floors & creaking floor boards, thundering footsteps plus we could hear their voices. The pillows are very lumpy & uncomfortable, past their best, please replace, this is such an easy quick win. The room needs a ceiling or wall light as you go in, it very dark there. Room 10 where my dad stayed smelled of mould. Other reviewers have me mentioned these issues months ago but they sadly still aren't fixed. If the main building rooms are better & quieter I would stay again as the location is great. Staff however were very friendly & helpful at what must have been their busiest time of the year.

We could not fault our 4 day stay at the Castle Hotel. Although the building itself I believe built in the 18th century is showing its age but the rooms are kept clean, tidy and comfortable and ours particularly was lovely and warm.
All the staff were so pleasant, cheerful and helpful and couldn't do enough for you.
We had pre booked Christmas Day dinner and that was simply the cherry on the cake, the choices on the menu, the food itself, the timing between courses, the waiting on staff, everything was absolutely perfect, a stay we won't forget and will definitely not be our last.
