Visitors appreciate the nearby walk along the canal to reach King John's Castle, describing it as a nice little day out with plenty of history to learn from the plaques. The castle ruins are quite small but are accompanied by informative boards detailing its history. The nearby parking on the main road is adequate, though not spacious.

Another highlight mentioned by visitors is the beautiful walk along the canal to access the castle, which is considered a stunning and enjoyable way to reach the historical site. The ruins are nearly 1000 years old, so the fact that only walls remain standing is understandable. Despite being small, the castle is deemed worth a visit due to its rich history and picturesque setting.

Lovely area, great walk along the canal and nearby lanes. The castle ruins are very small, but great information boards depicting the history of it. Nearby parking on the main road was ok but not many spaces.

Amazing piece of history, just the walls left standing but as it's almost 1000 years old, that's acceptable. Accessed by the most beautiful walk along a canal. Totally worth it

Sadly there is not much left of the old King John's Castle. Awesome peaceful walk to the castle while you enjoy a half km walk, while taking in the scenery.
Still can't believe this was his hunting castle. Yes that's right his hunting castle, not his hunting cabin or house, his castle.
Definitely a lot of history, if you enjoy reading there are signs around the castle.
Just follow the signs on where to park and walk across the bridge where you will see a sign with a castle and pointing in the direction you need to walk. See attached photos.

As castles go it's quite small. Nice stone work. Nevertheless it's free and has some useful boards explaining the castle's history. The walk alongside the canal is nice.

Great place for a little walk with a bit of history. Not much to do here but quiet and nice to look around. Parking is very limited I would suggest parking in the village and walking or find around the local area

Impressive what is actually left for you to see.
There is a clear board that shows off what the castle looked like when you look through it.
There are multiple boards inside and outside the relic, which explains its history and significance.
Go stand inside a piece of history!
I bet you enjoy the beautiful walk along the canal on the way to the castle.

There is a small carpark at the end of the road before the drawbridge over the canal.
